I would completely recommend avoiding…

I would completely recommend avoiding this agency, they are slow to respond, have no information ready at hand and this has possibly been the most annoying process of purchasing a property with them. There was a lot of missing information that I was not provided and they basically only know how to respond when they need something. You will call them and they say they'll get back to you and just disappear. Avoid if possible.

Sales progression team lied and not very professional.

We are in the process of buying a bungalow at the moment and the sales progression team told us the vendor had been to sort the electrics and service the boiler..previous tennants had apparently got in debt so electric was cut off..Hunters lied saying this would be sorted. A second viewing 2 weeks later and a wasted 120 mile journey confirmed nothing had been sorted. When we told them we were disappointed with them we were told to leave the property.

I sold my house through Hunters Downend during the Covid-19 pandemic, which of course was a significant and unexpected hurdle in the selling process. I found Hunters very supportive and helpful from start to finish. The initial valuation was carried out promptly, and the valuation process was honest and transparent. Throughout the viewings process etc I was provided with regular feedback, and then was regularly updated throughout the latter stages of the sale. Whenever I phoned up for sales progression updates, Sarah was helpful and efficient. I'd absolutely sell through Hunters again, and it is clear they are leaders in the local area in terms of the rate at which they sell houses, as well as standards of customer service.PositiveQuality, Professionalism

After months of disappointing activity from Purple Bricks, we decided to appoint Hunters and it was the best decision we could have made. David Bamforth and the team were proactive from the start, kept us fully updated on progress, secured loads of viewings and helped negotiate a great deal. I cannot recommend them highly enough and would never opt for a non-high street estate agent again. If you are looking for great customer service, a pro-active approach and a team that’s on your side - choose Hunters.

Hi Emma, thanks for your great feedback. It really is positive to hear from someone who has experienced both online and a local high street agent and is able to give an unbiased opinion. Hope all is well with you both. Kind regards Dave B

I would highly recommend the team at Hunters Downend. From the initial valuation, they were professional, knowledgeable about the area and above all honest and transparent. This remained the case throughout the process despite us taking a long time to find a suitable onward purchase and then being setback by the coronavirus pandemic. I was provided with regular feedback after each viewing and then throughout the sale process. David Vincent, David Bamforth and the team were always quick to respond to any queries I had. I would be more than happy to sell with Hunters again in the future.

Agent Harj was full of fake promises

Agent Harj was full of fake promises. Although he was all smiles and seemed friendly, the minute we left after our viewing he didn’t return texts or calls and shyed away from any contact. After several calls to the agents I finally managed to find out myself that the property had been given to someone else, rather than them calling me to inform me I had to dig this information out of them which was frustrating. Avoid!

Refused due to having children, unlawful discrimination

Contacted this agency regarding a view of 3-bedroom house. The advertisement contained no restrictions regarding families with children. During the phone call, the first question asked was whether we have children. Once this was confirmed, we were immediately refused solely on that basis. I asked several times why this restriction was not stated in the advertisement, but I received no explanation or answer. Refusing access to rented accommodation because a family has children constitutes unlawful discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. Letting agents are legally required to comply with this legislation, regardless of landlord preference. This experience raises serious concerns about the agency’s compliance with UK equality law. I am sharing this publicly so other families are aware.

Amazing service and support from end to end! Dave Bamforth was the agent who sold us the property, his professional and empathic approach to the negotiations really helped us manage a complex set of circumstances, to ensure a win win outcome for all parties involved. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them in future!

Bad communication

I have been trying to contact them for 4 months in regards to my flat and contract but they are absolutely appalling at responses and making things clear and helpful for those they are letting to. They have sent me in so many different directions on who to contact and have stopped responding to me within one week of me first contacting them. On top of this it took them weeks to respond and report to maintenance issues, and when they did the response I got was rude and abrupt. As well as that they issues weren't resolved fully resulting in me feeling uneasy in what was meant to be my own space. Absolutely awful service and wouldn't even consider letting/renting from them again.

Pathetic estate agency

Pathetic estate agency! The guy who is showing properties mixing up addresses and you end up viewing a different one. If you make an offer they show a very keen interest in person then no-one ever comes back to you. The property owners will never get to find out who made offers and they may just losing out on perfectly good tenants…!They do not even talk to each other within the office to relay interest. You get a bunch of promise, but that is all!Laura is useless!

Valuation and extension options - excellent service

We contacted Hunters to explore our property options, particularly around extending our home, and to better understand both current and future values. From the outset, the service we received was exceptional. Adam visited our property with genuine interest and took the time to understand how we currently use the space and how we hope to use it in the future. His thoughtful suggestions opened our eyes to possibilities we hadn’t considered, creative yet cost‑effective ideas that could give us the extra space we’ve been craving. What impressed us most was Adam’s honesty and depth of knowledge. He provided clear insight into the current market value as well as the property’s potential, even highlighting grants we might be eligible for. His advice helped us think far beyond our initial plan and gave us confidence in the decisions ahead. Hunters have proven themselves to be true experts in their field, professional, approachable, and genuinely invested in their clients. Adam, in particular, deserves recognition for helping us picture the full potential of our home and for giving us so much to consider. We would not hesitate to recommend Hunters, and if we ever decide to sell, they will be our first choice of agent.

Very unprofessional and rude agents

Very unprofessional and rude agents. They repeatedly called me while I was at work, and when I finally got back to them, they booked a viewing for the next day and told me to meet outside the property at the scheduled time. When I arrived and called their office, they initially lied, saying they would sort it out and call me back. After waiting 20 minutes with no update, I called again, only for them to blame me for going without having received an email confirmation, instead of acknowledging that their agent cancelled the appointment without notifying me. Overall, very unprofessional.

Appalling group of folks!

Appalling group of folks! This group has no idea what they are doing. we worked with Selina and she was absolutely clueless and brought wrong/unverified information to the table. If I were looking to rent, I would be running as far as possible from this agency or owners they work with! if there were minus points that is what I would give them for ripping a kid off!

Criminals

Misrepresentation, poor service, property management and unlawful practice Unlawful terms in the tenancy agreements, do not uphold their mutual terms as the agent, assume consent to access outside of tenants availability and threaten to break in unlawfully. Have done repairs in house that have caused injury and condition of rental has damaged tenant belongings, mould not disclosed, just covered up to blame tenant later when we leave, constantly asking for access and putting employment at risk but accuse tenant of breach when asked for compensation as in the tenancy agreement . Barely manage property unless theyve been reminded something important has expired. Estate agent happy to make threats to break and enter without legal knowledge, on behalf of a company that is owned by another agent that is well known for illegal practice, unsure if landlords know the legality of the contracts they've signed with Hunters without knowing and checking whether the terms are legal and lawful. Convinced they will be attempting to take money from the deposit as a form of ponzy scheme that pays for more unsafe repairs in propertys, check your doors, lights bulbs and curtain rails dont fall on your child's head, and if the property sets on fire Hunters will deny any accountability, so I doubt they will have integrity in the case of death and if you lose your job because of them they'll kick you out after breaking in (illegally) to make it possible to kick you out. Staff cant cope with reading lots of words in a row, so they don't acknowledge or respond to complaint and the staff will reframe anything you say or do in their favour anyway. Eve's review confirms our experience, its almost the same. They will evict if you ask them to ensure your home is safe and to uphold their mutual terms of the tenancy, they do not follow the eviction to repossession procedure lawfully and expect you to agree to hand the keys back by the notice period they decide at random without serving recorded notice and further violating access law. Using commercial laws for residential properties hoping noone will notice and they will not be accountable when the landlord is in court at their own expense.

Have bought and sold houses through Hunters for years. The business leaders Dave and Dave (easy to remember!) are both exceptional and know the local area so well! One particular incident stands to mind where they valued my home which was slightly under what I wanted for it and for a brief while I used another agent who had agreed to pitch the house at the higher value. 3 months later I couldn't even get a viewing so I went back to the guys who marketed the house at the recommended price. Subsequently 3 or 4 potential buyers ended up outbidding each other and I got a much higher price anyway! The back office staff are always very polite and friendly. Highly recommend and indeed have recommended to plenty of people myself. Great firm.

I highly recommend Hunters in Downend. Both Sara and David were very friendly and always responsive to our emails and calls. As first-time homebuyers, we were slightly anxious, but they allowed us to view the empty property on several occasions without any issues, which we really appreciated. We wouldn't hesitate to choose them again for buying or selling in the future.

We moved to Hunters after the previous agency let us down providing only a handful of poor viewings and no offers in 5 months. As soon as we met David we were very impressed with his local knowledge and honesty. The communication from the outset was superb, we had viewings lined up within a week and a sale agreed. All the way through conveyancing we were kept updated and they kept the chain moving along swiftly, and the whole process could not have been smoother or easier. Also every member of staff I spoke to whenever I rang up were on the ball and all very helpful. For years I always thought, everyone looks on Rightmove so the agent doesn't really matter, but actually I've realised when you deal with a big chain its just a branch manager working to targets, but when you deal with a small business / franchise you actually deal with the Director who genuinely cares about selling your house because its their business, and are in the branch everyday and that is what drives and sets the standards and service levels apart. Thanks again David.

Hunters - Tring - useless

Given that the purpose of an estate agent is to bring sellers and buyers together, as a potential buyer I found Hunters service abysmal I tried to make a viewing appointment for a property they had for sale. They said they would phone or email me. Nothing. Tried again two days later. Person I spoke to seemed surprised at what had happened and said would get back to me. Nothing. Were I to be selling a property, I would not be using this estate agency. Perhaps they only do it as a hobby.

Money for nothing

Make no mistake they aren't worthy of even one star! This Hunters franchise (Sea Road Sunderland) and their so called MD Chris Kelly and his team failed to carry our property inspections and investigate complaints from neighbours in relation to the neglect and horrendous decline of my property over a three year period. We as landlords put our faith in the letting agent and trust they will do a good job in managing our properties. I'm now £7k down trying to repair the property to a good standard. The failure of this company to manage the property and the tenants has left me significantly disadvantaged. Mr Kelly has not responded to my many complaints and requests for compensation and has instead left the franchise, no doubt to make another fortune charging 15% off the back of other unsuspecting landlords! Hunters are a company well known and trusted in our area but be warned, these agents are hiding behind that brand and are able to operate without scrutiny or regulation!!

Are the staff in the Highfield Road…

Are the staff in the Highfield Road office volunteers on some sort of day release programme ? I can only presume so because no company management in their right mind would pay them to do NOTHING, my 3 messages to request a viewing fell on deaf ears, yet it is still available for rent, appalling behaviour, does the owner of the rental know who they have looking after their property, in this case they soon will, Land Registry gave me the owners details and I am in the process of asking the owner directly for a viewing appointment as their "representatives" are awol.

Very bad customer service.

Very bad customer service. I requested for a viewing and the agent texted me over WhatsApp about the viewing times and said viewing can be done only on weekends and evenings. No other estate agents texted me over WhatsApp and others called me directly when I made a inquiry and even scheduled my viewing appointment according to my preference but this agency seemed not so interested in selling the property or whatever. Next thing when he finally had a suitable time for my viewing, I had to cancel the viewing because my car was in the garage and they said it was not ready for collection so I called the estate agent to inform him about it and this guy was so rude. He didnt even say bye and just hung up. Very disappointed.
