Just want to say thank you so much to Gemma, who took us to view houses around the Consett area. Gemma is so lovely, couldn't do enough for us, very accommodating with viewing times (due to work commitments), quickly found out information and answers to any questions we had about certain properties, and was fantastic with our toddler twins (who came to the viewings too and took a shining to Gemma). Thank you Gemma for all your help, we really appreciate your time and help.

Thank you so much for sharing such wonderful feedback regarding your experience, Leigh. It is truly lovely to hear that Gemma made your property viewings run so smoothly by being incredibly accommodating of your busy work commitments and making your toddlers feel so welcome throughout. We will certainly be sure to pass your very kind words along to her directly. Team Hunters.

Way back in 2024 Genna came to value my house. She was friendly, professional and put me at ease straight away. At that time I had a wedding coming up so wasnt able to proceed with putting house on the market. Gemma was really understanding and explained we could get back to her whenever the time was right. She came back and again this time and explained everything in layman's terms as to what the process was. She was quick to get my house on the 'coming soon' fb page, orgsnise a board to go up and photos of the inside done by Ross who was also really friendly and professional. Gemma has also been quick to answer any questions and any requests I have had. She definitely fills you with confidence with her approach. I have every confidence Gemma will help me and my buyrr navigate our way through the next steps of the process with solicitors, surveys etc. I would recommend Hunters to sell any house and already have done . Thanks Gemma 5* service

This company doesn't seem to care…

This company doesn't seem to care either about their prospective customers or their existing landlords. I have an outstanding issue with their poor tenant management at a property that they have let for a number of years and their failure to recover documented damage after the tenant vacated the property. Nobody is answering my emails. The owner has notified his landlords that yet another staff member has left the company, they are notorious for being unable to retain staff. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Gutted

I was really impressed with the valuer's sales pitch and genuinely believed they would be the best firm to sell my home. The fact they had a relationship with Ryan property law also played a part, although that turned out to be a disaster, but that's a review for another day. Experience of sales team - Georgia is so lovely and was a pleasure to work with. However, even after a week, the sole promotion strategy was pushing me to lower the price, which I eventually caved into and feel like I would have got more money had I gone with an approach suggested by a different agent. I had over 30 viewings, which was exhausting preparing the house for. Most of these were time wasting - one definitely a pseudonym (why don't they ask for ID checks?) and at least 10 weren't actually people who were in a position to buy (not got house on market or it would turn out they'd offered elsewhere). The buyers buyer (also buying through Hunters), was not vetted correctly or there was a big cover up. If there was a cover up, Hunters couldn't tell me, because they had such poor record keeping. I was sent evidence of some record keeping with regards to something else (hello GDPR breach!) and it was full of typos and omissions. Sales progression experience was horrific. Thankfully they eventually replaced the person, as I could go on and on with my list of what she did that was totally unprofessional, but worst bit is she could have put my children at risk if it had been a DV situation, as she told everyone in the chain my new address and all the addresses of everyone in the chain, repeatedly. I repeatedly complained about her and they left it far too late to do anything. Absolutely appalling and this estate agent caused so much additional stress to what was already a horrific chain. I would not recommend to anyone.

Dreadful Experience

We booked valuation. Confirmed twice no show. She eventually came late at night & we fell for the speel. Big mistake just full of empty promises. No response to phone calls or emails. 17 days before first viewing. Buyers were not vetted as we were told. Some hadn't even got their house on the market. It was a truly horrible experience. Finally got a offer £30,000 below asking price! THEN I had an long email telling me we should take it ! They are beyond rubbish. They take on too many clients & cannot give you the time. They don't even ask if appointment is convenient to you. One word ....Jokers Two words....Avoid Avoid If I could give zero stars I would

I had an exceptional experience working…

I had an exceptional experience working with Julie Decraene throughout my house purchase. From start to finish before passing onto the next agent for the further process of buying my house, her service was nothing short of outstanding. She made what can often be a stressful and complicated process feel smooth, straightforward, and incredibly efficient. Julie was always professional, approachable, and highly responsive. Any questions or concerns I had were addressed promptly and clearly, which gave me a great deal of confidence and peace of mind. Her knowledge and expertise were evident at every stage, and she guided me through the process with ease, ensuring everything moved forward quickly without any unnecessary delays. What truly stood out was how seamless she made the entire experience. The process of buying a house can be overwhelming, but Julie handled everything with such organisation and attention to detail that it felt effortless on my part. Her dedication and commitment to providing excellent service really shone through. I am genuinely grateful for her support and would highly recommend Julie Decraene to anyone looking for a reliable, efficient, and professional service. She has made a significant milestone in my life an incredibly positive and stress-free experience.

Excellent experience with Hunters

We had an excellent experience with Hunters from start to finish. Richard, Brenda and Adam were fantastic throughout the entire process - always responsive, easy to contact, and happy to help with any questions we had. Everything ran smoothly with no issues at all, and their professionalism and communication made a potentially stressful process much easier. We would highly recommend Hunters to anyone looking to buy or sell a property.

One of my worst experience buying a house from hunters

One of my worst experience buying a house from hunters auction. House was listed on website and tenanted for a fixed amount of rent which I was told by the auction agent called Robert. Also house was in bad state but got told tenants don’t care so why do you. Only to find out later on that tenants have never paid anywhere near that amount and it’s so much lower. So was lied to first of all and then later to meet the tenants and for them to tell us all the work they was promised and they wanted the house fixing top to bottom. What an absolute joke and waste of time and money. Keep your money and go elsewhere they will tell you anything just to sell a house that is overpriced

Excellant service

Moving can be hectic, but Dulcie made it so simple with her support, prompt communication, and quick responses from the first viewing in Cullompton right through to the day I collected the keys. She was professional, reassuring, and always ready to help. The team I met on key‑collection day was amazing, friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. Overall, a fantastic experience. Highly recommended.

Rude, poor service - a must avoid for renters

Rude, get passed around from pillar to post while they try to ignore your requests or questions. Tried for years to get them to fix things but just continually fell on deaf ears. Now they're trying to claim issues are my fault which are down to shoddy contractors (which they use consistently, including at one point despite having had yearly gas checks, I get told that the previous 6 years hasn't been done properly and the build up that caused a leak was because of this. Everything is everyone's issue but theirs. Renters, avoid at all costs!

When my Mam originally thought she'd sold her house Hunters were great but also there hadn't been much for them to do as my Mam was buying her new property privately and the sale of her house seemed to be going smoothly. Until, at the last minute, her buyer dropped out unexpectedly. My Mam was utterly devastated and she was at risk at losing the flat she was about to buy. It was at this point that Gemma literally came to the rescue. She listened to me panic and cry and then found a new buyer on the same day the original sale fell through! We were understandably anxious that the second sale would fall through and I probably made more calls to Gemma than I needed to, but she handled me with grace and care and never made me feel like I was a bother. Thankfully, my Mam's sale went through this week and we've sent our heartfelt thanks to Gemma for her support over the past few months.

Avoid! I would have given them zero stars had google given this option. They don't provide a dedicated sales progression service after you've accepted an offer on your house sale. I heard nothing from the Consett team until I dropped my keys into the office 2 days prior to the moving date, which they weren't aware of. I complained in branch, heard nothing, it was only when I witheld their payment that their director contacted me. Court action was quickly mentioned in his emails, interest was added so I paid under duress before my complaint was investigated for fear of having my excellent credit rating affected 3 weeks after I moved into my new home. As you will see from the directors response to my post, my complaint has been met with contempt, arrogance, agressive tone and words, and a general overtone of belittling. I was courteous and professional in my original complaint. Despite 2 investigations, my complaint has not been resolved so I have referred it to The Property Ombudsman which Mr Dimmick refers to and I trust that they will carry out an impartial, non-judgemental investigation. Would you use a company who responds so publicly to their customers in this manner? My advice is to read their other 1 star reviews and Suart Dimmick's responses, and then make your own informed decision.

Rosie · 10 December 2025

Agent replied · 22 October 2025

Rosie, I am very sorry you feel this way about the service we provided during the sale of your property. As you are aware, I am investigating your complaint and believe it would have been better to wait for the outcome before posting your review. I can confirm that we received no complaint from you during this period until the day you came into the office to hand in the keys before completion. Ross immediately contacted me to raise your concerns. I followed this up by contacting you by email on the 1st September 2025. You did not respond until we wrote to you the following week at your new address, which we had as part of the sales progression process. Regarding your invoice, by withholding payment without prior notification, you breached your contractual agreement and had no legal or statutory right to do so. As a family-owned business, we rely on and trust vendors to fulfil their contractual obligations. Nevertheless, I think it would be relevant for you to understand the scope of our involvement in the sales progression process under the codes of practice for The Property Ombudsman. 12. Between Acceptance and Exchange of Contracts 12a After acceptance of the offer by the seller, and until exchange of contracts you have no direct influence on such matters as the conveyancing process or the mortgage lending process. Your obligations to the client are: • to monitor progress; • to assist where possible, as asked; • to report information deemed helpful to bringing the transaction to fruition; • where there is a chain, routinely check the immediate transactions and communicate information helpful to bringing your client’s transaction to fruition. You must keep written or electronic records of such activity. I have been unable to find any contemporaneous notes, emails, or phone records indicating that neither you nor your legal representative requested any assistance from us during the 18 weeks between acceptance and completion. Furthermore, from the notes, I can see there are 27 points of contact during the sales progression period, which equate to 1.5 contacts per week for sales progression. This illustrates that, despite your review, the in-house branch sales progression team's activities during this time have been carried out in accordance with the TPO codes of practice. Awful customer service

I remain deeply disappointed in the way my most recent complaint has been handled at their Newcastle branch. The way the branch manager speaks to tenants is appalling! If you have a complaint then don’t expect any sympathy or accountability. We have rented this property for 11 years and in that time, we have been superb tenants but sadly that doesn’t mean anything to them. I anticipate a reply to this which will more than likely attempt to completely contradict what I’ve written here but just know that our experience has not been a positive one!

Nightmare move

I used Hunters to sell my home after living there for approximately 35 years. I want to acknowledge that the sale itself was complicated and involved significant delays, including probate and Land Registry issues. Hunters did work to keep the sale progressing, and I recognise the time and effort involved in that process. However, my experience on completion day was extremely distressing. I was still in the process of removing my belongings when the buyers and members of their family arrived at the property. My family and I were placed under considerable pressure to remove a lifetime of possessions as quickly as possible. My belongings were outside and in the street, and I felt deeply embarrassed, overwhelmed and humiliated by the circumstances. I had expected the handover of my home to be handled in a calm and organised way. Instead, what should have been an important and emotional moment after 35 years in my home became one of the most distressing experiences I have ever had. I raised a formal complaint with Hunters. The agency investigated the matter and explained that they had followed their usual procedures and were not aware that the buyers intended to attend the property at that time. I appreciate that Hunters were not present at the property and therefore could not comment directly on everything that happened there. I also appreciate that the completion process itself is controlled by solicitors and that many aspects of the timing are outside an estate agent's control. However, I remain deeply upset by the way the handover unfolded and by the experience I had on the day I left my home. I believe clearer communication and better coordination of the physical move may have prevented the situation from becoming so distressing. Having considered my experience and the response to my formal complaint, I would not recommend Hunters based on my experience of the completion and handover of my property. This review reflects my personal experience and the impact the events of completion day had on me.

5 years renting with no issues at all

I rented an apartment through Hunters (Otley & Ilkley) for five years and honestly had a great experience the whole time. They were always quick to reply, super easy to deal with, and sorted any issues straight away - no chasing needed. Communication with the landlord was also really smooth thanks to them. Big thanks to Donna, Libby, and Leister for being so helpful and friendly over the years. Would definitely recommend Hunters if you're looking for a letting agent you can rely on.

Not transparent, poor communication, poor customer service

1. Not transparent, even though they have a duty to disclose issues with the property once asked. When I asked why is a 2-bed in the city centre is only £995 (when I already knew the answer being ongoing construction site), they were purposely very vague. He emailed, "Regarding the prices, there are a number of factors affecting a valuation of a property which include size, conditions, time of year, building etc." 2. Get clients names mixed up and books you in for the wrong viewings. Eg. I asked to see a £995 2 bed property but they linked me to a £1300 property. I had to correct them. They also kept emailing me and calling me Chris when I said several times I am not Chris. Worrying early signs of poor communication, little to no client care. 3. Viewings are incomplete - why schedule a viewing of the property, only for me to turn up and that is when you say there is a communal laundry room but I am not allowed to view it. After the viewing I emailed back and this was their response: "The communal laundry rooms are on the stairs, one per floor. At the moment we don’t have capacity for second viewings unfortunately. I made it clear from the beginning of my enquiry that I wanted to find a quiet home to rent and no drama. Clearly, the initial contact and viewing experience already hints there will be drama, probably worse if I did sign a contract with Hunters.
