We paid for almost six months but left after two. The property, rented via Engel & Völkers, was nothing like the listing; it was unsafe, with exposed wiring, mold inside, and garbage left in the garden. Photos and measurements were misleading. The landlord, who turned out to work for Engel & Völkers, dismissed every complaint. So did his boss. And his boss. There was no accountability, no solution, just silence. It was a deeply unprofessional experience that has cost us thousands of euros. Later, we found out that their two-month commission was unlawful.

This agency should be subject to stricter oversight and regulation. While searching for housing options in Barcelona, I found their approach to be exploitative, taking advantage of clients in an already difficult and competitive market. The customer service has been extremely poor, showing no empathy or willingness to help. At one point, I was even told, "It’s the market," as if that justified their lack of support or inflated prices. Agencies like this contribute directly to the housing crisis and rising prices in the city.

Hello, we hired your company to do our listing. I believe our agent presented herself in a professional manner. We lost the sale of our home, because both the buyer's agent and seller's agent lacked any experience in intense negotiations. I had to constantly remind my agent to send me contract papers. One thing else for all agents entering the market. Texting is fine, but when it comes to any home, please remember to call first and explain offers in detail and then text the message for the buyers or sellers records. Next time I want an agent that knows all about tough negotiations and knows how to close the deal. I am looking for someone who has fire in their belly to please me and work hard for me and to close the deal.

Despite the law governing rental fees in Barcelona this company do everything they can to squeeze fees from tenants. The old agency fee is now dressed up as a 'shopper fee'. When looking for a property we were asked to prove income of more than 5k net per month (for a rental of 1600 per month), after agreeing to this we were then asked to sign an agreement to give an introduction fee of over 2k if we took the property. This company clearly has no regard for the law and will do anything to cream money of tenants. never use these cowboys. Disgraceful!

If you want to lose hundreds of thousands of US dollars be sure to list your property with Engel & Völkers, if not, run the other way. We were interested in a silent auction sale; Engel & Völkers calls this "Secret Sale". Right from the start we had to contact the E & V office over and over again to chase down our would-be listing agent to represent us in the sale of your luxury condo in Munich. We were finally given her mobile phone number and left voicemails. As a last ditch effort we sent her a text message. A day later she finally got in touch with us but declared she was going on vacation the next day. First red flag: If she's this unresponsive even before winning us as clients, what would it be like after we signed with her. She eventually made it over to our condo, and after another long week of waiting she finally did email us her purchase price assessment. BUT: The price was literally HALF of what other (reputable!) agencies had quoted us! To show how she had arrived at such a low number she had sent comparison condo sales examples, but those condos were not at all comparable to our condo, neither in quality nor in location. To us it seemed that she was deliberately trying to pressure us into selling our condo for half price. Given the enormous difference in the purchase price assessment between Engel & Völkers and the other real estate companies we were at a complete loss as to why they would want to set the price 50% lower than the actual market value. Was our agent, who carries the title of “Managing Director and Shareholder” really this incompetent? Or were they/someone closely associated with them, going to bid (and win!) the auction themselves and pocket a huge profit down the road? Be it as it may, luckily we hadn't signed with Engel & Völkers yet and were able to go with a different real estate company to represent us. Our conclusion: Engel & Völkers is not trustworthy. There are other websites out there with many unhappy reviews, including shady business dealings of Engel & Völkers involving an investment in Dubai, and another in Forest Lakes Country Club, Nova Scotia (Canada) gone bust. People apparently lost $500,000 to upwards of millions of dollars, some lost their retirements. Other reviewers complained about lowball price assessments very similar to ours and dealt with the same unresponsiveness as we did, etc. . Every property they have is either fake or an old listing that is not available, then they waste your time making you wait forever and at the end an excuse such as the owner no longer wants to sell or rent the property, this has happened in different countries so is not location specific, it’s the company marketing approach at which point you will have lost any other options you had.
